Joanna Medina was born and raised in Southern California, until she was later stationed in Virginia by the US Navy. After completing 5 years in the service as an Aviation Mechanic, she decided to follow her passion for creativity by pursing a bachelors degree online at the Academy of Art University. While majoring in Illustration, Joanna continues to work part time as a art instructor while creating a variety of art pieces.
Joanna’s background in traditional art mediums has developed into a love for illustration and graphic design. She has worked previously with clients seeking painting commissions, logo designs, tattoo designs, and character designs. She is eager to seek out freelance work in her spare time at her home studio.
ABOUT ME
Artist Statement
Hello! My name is Joanna, (she/her)
My passion for art started at a young age, since I was inspired by my mother and her artistic abilities. Coming from a family of immigrants, it was especially instilled in me to persevere through challenges. From studying art beside a mentor, to pursing a college degree. My art style has shifted from realism to loosely based animated styles. However, I gravitate towards warm tones, stylized caricatures, and animals. As many of my illustrative influences center around classic novelists such as Richard Scarry, Eric Carle, Jim Davis, and Charles Schluz. My dream is to one day create something just as memorable as “Snoopy” or “Garfield” through a similar vintage charm. As I continue to produce more art, I hope to share my journey with anyone interested in supporting my brand of "Moldyduck.jpg”
